Evans Middle School
Hometown:
McKinney, TX
Class Information:
Room Number: E115
Students per Class: 180
Class Description:
Art class is a challenging and interactive class. It is so much more than drawing and painting, although that is definitely part of it. We do additive and subtractive sculpture, dabble in glass and metal. One of our most popular projects is when we dedicate several weeks to photography. We've even invited an award-winning professional photographer to come share tips and techniques for three years in a row now. Then they take all sorts of shots around the school grounds and even get to go to a duck pond close to the school for their landscape shots.
Position:
Art Teacher
Needs:
Our class is in desperate need of decent quality digital cameras. We borrow the school cameras but there are only 6 working, 3 of which are so old they store images on floppy disks. That in itself wouldn't be a problem, but I have to upload all the images and it takes upwards of three hours to get all the images off the disks and into the appropriate class folders at the end of my day! The other problem is the amount of cameras. I have 180 students, as many as 32 in a class. It's almost impossible to expect 32 students to share 6 cameras and truly do an adequate job taking shots.
My Philosophy:
All children are artists. Some are painters, some are sculptors, some are photographers. Everyone has something they are artistic at. It's my job to find that part of every child.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I've been teaching for 11 years and I have the best job in the world! I get paid to find the artist in children! I have three adult daughters, all of them are artists. My aunt and uncle taught art at a college and university. I had no choice but to teach art!
College and Degrees:
I have a Bachelors from the University of North Texas.
Activities:
I paint and teach painting classes in the evenings to adults more for relaxation and fun than for "high art", although the paintings always end up beautiful!
Favorite Books:
The Bourne Trilogy, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Left Behind Series
Favorite Quotes:
Great art picks up where nature ends. ~Marc Chagall
Interests:
Painting, teaching, photography, interior design, faux painting
Employment History:
I've taught regular classroom 1st and 2nd grade as well as art in middle school. Young ones are definitely sweeter, but middle school is a blast!
Why Do I Teach?:
Because I love it! Watching the "aha" moment is the most inspiring thing in the world!
