Position:
Science and ESLTeacher
Needs:
My students need to learn to get in front of a group to talk. Some of them are so shy that they are afraid to talk in front of anyone at all. With new technical equipment, I feel that the students would be able to come out of their shells more and participate in group projects if they knew that someone else was working with them and encouraging them. I am always positive and I motivate them quite well.
My Philosophy:
If students learn by example then they are in good shape in my class because I am concerned that I stay positive and encourage them as much as possible. I keep the students who are mainstreamed in who are special education students mixed in with the other students and the other students never have a clue who is special education and who is not. They all get along and work together in groups which is their favorite activity. I never allow all the "brains" to stay in a group. I spread the "brains" around so that everyone gets a bite of the good part of the pie. I enjoy working with teenagers because I have always been able to relate them. Being a mother myself and having a teenager at one time who is now a mother and a teacher as well has given me much perspective that I carry with me. The students never know when I am upset or angry because I smile and talk to them like they were my children and we are one big happy family. Sometimes I do have to walk between two or three of them to get them to settle out and quiet themselves so that we can finish class, but it just makes sense to keep a positive attitude that all children can learn. They may not all learn at the same rate or the same level, but they all deserve an education. Teachers have the right to teach, and students have the right to learn.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am the grandmother of an eleven month old grandson who is the light of my life. I live by myself as a human but have two miniature pinschers and a miniature chihuahua who keep me company at home. Outside I have a poodle that belongs to my daughter and I have a rat terrier. They live in a neat little fenced in area for their safety because the poodle bites, and the rat terrier had a nervous breakdown a few years ago. They are both up in years and are still spoiled rotten just like the three in the house.
