Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I need this flip camera for professional development, specifically for work in my graduate school class on literacy. I am required to videotape lessons I teach in order to hone my practice as a teacher. In the immediate future, I will use this camera as a professional tool to: evaluate literacy lessons and personal teaching techniques; analyze my interpretations of educational theories put into practice, and to share and communicate my classroom experiences with my colleagues. Not only will this piece of technology benefit me, but it will allow other educators to: see teacher interactions with students, analyze lessons, observe student behaviors, and understand classroom dynamics. With this user-friendly technology, teachers will be able to see various classrooms of multiple grade levels ranging from Kindergarten through High School among different counties and school systems across North Carolina. The immediate impact felt by using this technology will result in cross-curricular/cross-gradelevel dialogue among current teachers in North Carolina. It is my hope that through this collaboration with fellow teachers in my Master’s Cohort, I will serve as a “pilot teacher” for using this new technology to enhance Professional Learning Communities within my school. With my success, it is my hope that I will inspire my principal to see the value in using this type of technology for assessment so that she will want to purchase these cameras for all the teachers at my school. *By requesting 4 cameras, under the buy 2 get 2 free, I plan to give the other 3 cameras to colleagues in my cohort or at my school to use in their own classrooms. After my requirement for graduate school is completed, I plan to continue to use this valuable piece of technology in my classroom for the following: 1. Enhance current curriculum through student projects 2. Videotaping our classroom alphabet chart with our sounds, song, motion and words to help our struggling students 3. Record students’ sharing during writing time 4. Data analyses -- for Guided Reading behaviors 5. As a communication tool for parents –to document behaviors in school, successes with newly learned skills, etc. I look forward to using this Flip Camera in my classroom to help me fine-tune my teaching practice and better serve my students as I evaluate their learning using technology.

Favorite Quotes:
"It is big... and sometimes frightening. But on the whole, the world is an exciting place." -The goose giving advice to her newborns in the novel Charlotte's Web by E.B. White "It is not enough to be busy; even the ants are busy. The question is, what are we busy about?" Henry David Thoreau "Nothinggreat was ever achieved without enthusiasm." -Ralph Waldo Emerson "Mightjust as well be happy, seeing as it doesn't make a difference to anyone but you if you're not." - From the novel The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo "I was glad my father was an eye-smiler. It meant he never gave me a fake smile because it's impossible to make your eyes twinkle if you aren't feeling twinkly yourself. A mouth-smile is different. You can fake a mouth smile anytime you want, simply by moving your lips. I've also learned that a real mouth smile always has an eye smile to go with it. So watch out, I say, when someone smiles at you with his mouth but his eyes stay the same. It's sure to be a phony." -From the novel Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl
