I have a total of 42 students in my classroom each day. About half of those students are ESL Learners. 26 different languages are represented in our district. Our school is Title I funded, with about 95% being enrolled in Free & Reduced Lunch. We are very proud to be a Recognized Elementary School 2 years counting, and are striving this year for the rating of Exemplary.
Position:
ELA/ESL Teacher
Needs:
Our school is technologically "stalled out." We try very hard to provide our children with all of the up & coming technology that we can, but with our school budget we are not able to do so. It would be fantastic if every teacher in our school were provided with ELMO's. Right now we have 5 that are checked out and shared among our 40+ teachers and specialists. They are checked out weekly.
My Philosophy:
I really want to make a difference in our students lives. I believe that effective communication is crucial to the development of young people today. Whether it be spoken communication, written communication or non-verbal, our students need to be able to communicate effectively to be successful in school, and in life. As a language learner myself, I realize the barrier that can exist if people cannot communicate. It is my goal to teach children to respect language, words, and cultures and to show them the benefits of comprehending the three.
