Cherryville Elementary School
Hometown:
Cherryville, NC
Class Information:
Room Number: 8
Students per Class: 23
Class Description:
I have a wonderful classroom full of 1st grade students! The atmosphere is always busy and it is so refreshing to begin a new day with sweet smiling faces! We work hard everyday and we always learn something new. My class participates in several online learning experiences and we also have a travel buddy project that we are just wild about!
Position:
1st grade teacher
Needs:
The needs in my classroom are great! We only have 1 computer in the classroom so the time that is spent on it daily is important to each student. I love to use technology in my classroom and would absolutely LOVE to have a Smartboard; but of course the funds are just not there! My classroom website is www.tinyurl.com/emcj2
My Philosophy:
Every child can learn! They just need lots of support and attention so they will be able to do so.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a first grade teacher in a small community. I teach at the same school where I was once a student! That is neat! I am also married and a mother. My son is in 5th grade. He loves reading and school in general. Whew! I am so glad/proud because education is very important to me.
College and Degrees:
I graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with my Bachelors of Arts in 1993. I also graduated from the UNCC with my Masters degree in Elementary Education K-6.
Activities:
I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love to meet new people and learning new things. I am an active member in my church as well. I also enjoy scrapbooking, surfing the computer for new ideas to use in my classroom as well as traveling with my families.
Favorite Books:
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is probably my favorite book overall! I feel as a mother and teacher that I am always giving of myself.
Interests:
I am interested in many things! I love to read!
Employment History:
I have taught in Gaston County Schools for 16 years. I taught Kindergarten my first year at Forest Heights Elementary in Gastonia, NC and 1st grade the following year. I transferred to Cherryville Elementary the following year and have taught 1st grade since. It is my favorite!
Why Do I Teach?:
I hope that I am in someway making a positive impression on my students. I love what I do but it is a very demanding job that truly never ends for me!
