All K-4 grade students have Media class once a week. During this class time we have a lesson on information skills, technology or focus on reading. Students may come in anytime to exchange books or use resources as needed. I try to bring in the technology piece as I collaborate with our teachers to enhance their instruction. I also integrate social studies and science with books we read, or technology skills. The technology resources we use the most are digital cameras, data projectors, document cameras, classroom presentation systems, computers, and digital microscopes (Blue View) during Media time.
Position:
Media Coordinator
Needs:
We need at least 3 more data projectors to use with our classroom presentation systems and Blue View microscopes. Ideally, we would like for each class to have a data projector, document camera, digital camera or FLIP video recorder so students would have better access to them.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I'm married to my college sweetheart and best friend. My family and my faith are my priorities. I'm a country girl who enjoys the simple pleasures of life: a porch swing, a good book, cup of coffee, & our family farm to enjoy.
College and Degrees:
Masters in Library Science, East Carolina.
Batchelorof Science in Religious Education/Youth Ministry, Campbell University.
Associateof Arts Degree, Chowan University
Favorite Books:
It's hard for a librarian to narrow it down, but the top ones are: The Mitford series(Jan Karon); Sarah, Plain and Tall(Patricia MacLachlan); Love, Ruby Lavender & Each Little Bird That Sings(Deborah Wiles); the Shiloh Trilogy(Phyllis R. Naylor); the Little House series (Laura Ingalls Wilder), and Nicholas Sparks' books.
Interests:
I love reading, photography, scrapbooking, and gardening. I love antiques and "old stuff" and enjoy collecting them.
Employment History:
I've been a secretary, youth and children's director, preschool teacher, circulation librarian in a college library, and now in my 12th year as an Elementary School Media Coordinator (which I thoroughly enjoy).
Why Do I Teach?:
I love seeing the sparkle in a child's eye when they finally "get it", whether it's the book that finally makes them want to read more, or a tough math problem.
