Heather Chirtea, Executive Director
Board President
Digital Wish
PO Box 1072
Manchester Center, VT 05255

Dear Mrs. Chirtea:

The Harbor School is seeking a grant of $16,800 from the Digital Wish Foundation in support of the iClass project. We have done extension research and found that Digital Wish is most compatible with the goals and objectives of this project. The iClass project incorporates technology in the classroom, brining exciting new possibilities in regards to academic work and collaboration.

The Harbor School opened its doors in 1968. As a part of the RKS Associates branch of schools, it serves students with special needs in Monmouth. Middlesex, Ocean, and Mercer counties. Approved by the New Jersey Department of Education, the Harbor School provides speech, occupational, and physical therapy. It also provides onsite consultations for orthopedic, assistive technology, augmentative communication, and feeding issues in partnership with Children’s Specialized Hospital.

The iClass project that your grant will fund will make a difference for students both academically and socially. Academically, students will have access to educational software designed to fit their individual needs as students. This software will be used to make education more relevant and more enjoyable for the user. It will also allow classroom and even school collaboration on projects. Socially, students with communicative impairments will have assistive software to help them communicate with staff and peers. This will bring more interaction and conversation, enriching the learning environment.

We have an existing stock of iPads for select students with communicative impairments. Your support will allow us to provide iPads to the remaining students, as well as to educate staff on the device and software’s uses. The implementation phase of this project will be completed within the year, and evaluations will be conducted every 3 months with a larger evaluation done at the year’s end.

We would be happy to send a full proposal for further review and look forward to your support.

Sincerely,
Jacob Masvidal, Intern
