How many college assignments are submitted on sheets of loose-leaf paper? As both the workplace and institutions of higher learning shift their expectations towards technologically savvy learners, the amount of resources available to prepare students for the demands of the real world are quite sparse.
This shocking reality became obvious as many of my 12th grade students were unable to produce a recent research paper assignment in MLA Format due to lack of access and exposure to computers for word processing. Many of these students, on the cusp of entering college, understand the concept of writing formatted papers and locating reputable resources to support claims, but due a current student to laptop ratio of 1:22 in the ELA Department, they have not been given the opportunity to craft these skills. The goal of this fundraiser is to purchase a classroom set of Google Chromebooks to bridge the gap between high school and college through integrating word processing and research skills into our literacy curriculum. Our objective is to send college and career ready students out into the world with the ability to meet the needs of a technology-driven educational landscape and workplace.
