Raised Goal: $1000.00
Raised: $0.00 ...Or, join the team and help spread the word! . I currently teach the Intensive reading class at Freeport Middle and have seen firsthand their struggles. Unfortunately, the students are tested in English and therefore often shut down trying to learn English. The students I have had in the past have stated “what is the point? I am not going to be able to pass anyways?”. As a teacher, this is heartbreaking. The key to helping a student is to build a connection as well as build confidence in them. However, if a teacher does not have the resources to help them, the trust is lost. I have found a strong passion in helping these students since I have become ESOL endorsed on my certificate. I want to help the students learn the content, learn the language and help the other teachers understand their impact on these students. Currently, in our community, there are very limited educational resources for these students. Therefore, I have decided to start a project geared to helping these specific students. I am currently working on building a foundation of knowledge to educated our teachers and help improve the education for our ELL students. I have taken on the task to build this project of resources that teachers will have access to help with content area and reading teachers to have to complete one on one and not be dependent on a computer program. The resources that this project will contain: 1. content resources in Spanish to English 2. Workbooks/flash cards/journals and other in class resources 3. Technology to help translation between teacher and student (tablets/laptops/headphones/microphone devices) 4. Novels in Spanish of interest 5. Informative educational books and development for teachers whom teach ELL students 6. Up to date dictionaries that the students find easy to read and follow Share This Link: http://www.digitalwish.com/dw/digitalwish/view_fundraiser?id=1894
