We have 4 students between the Junior High and High School who have complex bodies and needs. Our district provides a 1:1 Chromebook for each of these students but they are unable to access these devices due to their complex needs. These students need to have a variety of access methods (eye gaze, switch, joy stick on power wheelchair, direct select and voice activation), larger and better resolution screens and access to more advanced tools that can be found outside of the Chrome environment in things like Microsoft (the school has licenses for all students but the accessibility features are very limited in Chrome). They have vision deficits that are not well served by the small low resolution of the Chromebooks as well. A more sophisticated laptop or hybrid tablet would increase access and independence for these students to engage in their education. In addition, eye gaze technology and switch interface equipment is needed for increased access.
