The goal of this project is to obtain 30 laptops, one Swivl C Series Robot C1, two 3D printer and Filaments to create a STEM lab for middle and high school students serving 6 -11 graders. Limited access to technology at our Middle and High School confines the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction in 6-10 grade STEM classes; thereby restricting student access to technology and real world learning. This fundraiser provides learners with the technology and opportunity to prepare for the challenges of the 21 st Century learner.
The goal is to enrich the STEM curriculum by enabling learners the opportunity to increase learning and understanding through a laptop initiative that incorporates an ELearning approach to curriculum delivery and participation. Learners will use the Internet
and technology to increase their confidence, independence, and productivity as creative learners.
Making use of the 3D printer will allow students to experience abstract concepts in an interactive and hands on way. The use of a 3D printer presents the unique opportunity to immerse students in projects that demonstrates to students the applications of technology and engineering in the classroom. Students could be taught about the use and development of prosthetic in medicine. Another application of the 3D printer in the science classroom could be a project based learning activity about renewable energy, sustainable building, body parts or DNA structure. With 3D Printing, the 3D digital art students can become designers and creators using cutting-edge technology to visualize and create their own imaginations.
The created 3D design will be used in two different ways. The first is where the students will use the printed 3D models to start their own business to sell them to high-profile groups and use the proceeds to buy items for the homeless. The second use of the 3D designs will be that educational models will be donated to less unfortunate schools as well as shipped internationally to other less fortunate schools to use in their classrooms.
