Sixth grade math students will work in collaborative groups to design a box garden with a budget of only $100. Students will research the best edible plants that will grow in Zone 7 in Tennessee while also researching the best materials to use to build the boxes. After researching plants and materials, students will design their gardens using a scale drawing with geogebra.org while fitting in a designated space of 20' by 20'. After gardens are designed, students will choose their form of technology such as PowerPoint, Sway, Prezi, etc. to present their research and scale drawings to an agriculture science class panel.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students will research edible plants that will grow in Zone 7 of Tennessee while also keeping in mind affordability and upkeep.
Follow-Up
Student designs' may be used to actually build the school's new garden.
