Class Information:
Room Number: 503
Students per Class: 150
Class Description:
I have 6 periods of different types of Business Education and Computer/Technologyclasses. We do keyboarding, Office Applications, computer simulations of Entrepreneurship and Personal Finance. I incorporate all areas of the curriculum into my lessons.
Position:
Business/TechnologyTeacher
Needs:
We need the latest technology. New computers, mini camcorders (like Flip video cameras), Business texts/resources among other things.
My Philosophy:
I believe all students have gifts which help them learn in school and in life. I believe in giving students the skills to teach themselves -- they will always be able to find out what they want and need to know. In this way, students will become responsible for their own learning throughout their lives -- ownership of their learning helps them to retain knowledge.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching since 1995. I began as a Special Education teacher and then moved into teaching Gifted Students. Beginning the 2008-2009 school year, I began teaching computer science/business courses in the middle school part of our K-8 center. I have earned my Bachelors degree, Masters degree, and Specialist degree (all in education). I am still taking classes because I believe in being a life-long learner -- I feel like the interesting things I learn in such courses as Architecture, Creative Writing, and Computer/Technologycourses can be passed to my students. I intend to keep learning for as long as I am able to. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of MC Generalist. I certified back in 1999 and recertified in 2009. I have professional certification in: Gifted Ed., Elementary Ed., SLD, ESOL, Computer Science, Integrated Curriculum in the Middle Grades, Mathematics (5-9) and Science (5-9).
College and Degrees:
I attended Florida International University. I have a B.S. in Special Education and a M.S. in Special Education also, with emphasis in Gifted Education.
Favorite Books:
Any Science Fiction and Fantasy book (e.g.: Otherland by Tad Williams; Dragonlance by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman; Dragons of Pern by Anne McCaffrey; Shannara by Terry Brooks; Xanth and Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony).
Favorite Quotes:
Invictus: Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyondthis place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. William Ernest Henley Life goes by rapidly. Don't delay. Don't put it off. Don't wait until you have some spare time. Don't wait until the time is "right." — Ken Keyes
Interests:
I like to read, watch movies, ride my motorcycle and play RPG games online, like Everquest 2.
