Promotional Video for Recruiting Early College Students

Upon completion of preparatory materials (questions for interviews, decisions about projects to videotape), the Early College students will develop a script for a promotional video, create the backgrounds for the videos, and film a video to market the Early College concept.

Materials Needed:
1. Notebook
2. Digital Camera
3. Computer software - Movie Maker/powerpoint/publisher
4. Large rolls of paper to construct backgrounds
5. Video Camera
6. Microphones for interviews
7. Graphics Programs
8. Mixing equipment to edit videos

Learning Activities:
1. Sudents will be divided into groups
2. Groups will be assigned tasks
a. Interviews
b. Background construction
c. Video taping
d. Picture gathering from past events
e. Logo Development/Graphics Creation
f. Script writing
3. Students will work in group for several days to develop and create their products
4. Students will work together to begin the rough draft and dry runs of the video
5. Film Day (Students will take a field trip to a studio to review what is required
a. Students will dress professionally for their roles as interviewers
b. Students in the graphics development will have materials prepared using Windows Movie Maker

Closure
Student will write their reflections on the experience and the project as a whole. They will reflect on their individual roles and the whole team.

Later, students will regroup and reflect on feedback from eighth graders who were involved in the recruitment process.
Comments
Lesson plan was initiated by the students who are taking an active role in planning for this event. At this time, since we are in our first year, we have no equipment or financial resources to puchase the equipment.
Follow-Up
Revise based on feedback from eighth grade students and faculty and counseling staff who participated in the marketing experience.
