Objectives

State:
1. Perform basic keyboarding applications.
a. Demonstrate proper use of the alphanumeric keypad by touch.
b. Identify the numeric keys and reaches. Correctly key by touch the conditioning practice and software exercises.

Procedures

Bellringer:
o SW complete a journal entry for today entitled, “What do you think the world will be like when you are a grown up?”

Anticipatory Set:
Procedure(s)
Guided Practice:
• TW lecture on the importance of Proper Keyboarding Technique
• SW take notes and demonstrate at station
• TW introduce the “proper” reach for the keys “8” and “1”
• SW listen and take notes
• TW demonstrate the “proper” reach for “8” and “1”
• SW demonstrate technique at station
• TW play instrumental “hip-hop” during the demonstration of proper technique and reach as to portray a steady beat
• SW demonstration proper technique and reach to the beat of the music
Note: TW video tape procedures to show students later the "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly of Typing"
Independent Practice:
• TW dictate to student previously learned keys and new keys with voice recorder
o Century 21 p. 44 25b
• SW type as the “teacher” dictates
• TW monitor student technique and reaches for the keys using a rubric
• SW type from the voice recorder and demonstrate proper technique and key reaches
Group Activity:
• The Teacher will divide students with UNO cards by number
• The Student will go to assigned group and participate in “Keyboard Jeopardy”
• TW use observation to monitor students as she will be the “Hostess” of the game using the projector and laptop
Independent Practice:
• TW assign student to complete TMWR (Timed Writing)
o Typing Master
• SW complete 2” TMWR. Save both and print best one.
o Aesop Fable
o Behind the Movie Scene
Closure:
• Tomorrow review keys
• Test Friday on “blank” keyboard

• Enrichment- Students will create an interactive game to reinforce Unit IV Keyboarding objectives
• Remediation- Student will type in Mavis Beacon for reinforcement of keys

Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Once Students learn to type they can type reports for other classes more efficiently.
Follow-Up
Teacher will show students the tape of previous typing to show good and bad habits. The students will then type again trying to improve typing skills.
