NCTM Standard Grades 3-5: investigate, describe, and reason about the results of subdividing, combining, and transforming shapes
NC Standard Course of Study - Grade 4 Math COMPETENCY GOAL 3: The learner will recognize and use geometric properties and relationships. 3.03 - 3.03 Identify, predict, and describe the results of transformations of plane figures (Reflections, Translations, Rotations.)
Project Description: Students will use knowledge of geometric transformations to create a digital presentation using digital photos and presentation software (Keynote or PowerPoint). *Students will take digital photos to represent each type of geometric transformation (reflection, translation, rotation) *Each slide created should contain a photo, a description of the object photographed, and an explanation of the transformation completed.
Essential question: What are geometric transformations and how can you demonstrate them using objects?
Teacher Input: Present essential question and give expectations of project.
Guided Practice: Teacher should prepare and share a sample slideshow giving expectations of completed project. Guide students to create a title slide for their individual project.
