In our classroom of 25 first graders we have many students with special needs; including 3 cognitively impared, 6 with speech imparements and one with a hearing imparement. This classroom has 6 children that are read at least 3 grade levels above their placement and many others with special gifts. We have been writing stories in our journals and publishing them in little books all year. The students are now ready to take this fabulous activity to another level. They need to be able to view themselves and improve their fluency and expression as well as their presentation skills. I propose that the students work in teams to start so that their focus can be on the quality of the reading of their story then the other team mate will be able to use the cameras to create a video for the team to watch and give Stars and Wishes. Stars are the things that they liked about the video and or story and wishes are suggestions for the author/film director. The final goal is for the students to produce videos of themselves reading an original story that they have written on our website faor their parents and community. These videos can the be watched many times and the children will become Storytelling Superstars!
