This lesson is the culmination of our study of the American Revolution.
The class will have 3 choices of how to participate.
They will either be in the commercials/introduction to the newscast, an anchor person or a person from the American Revolution.
Those who want to be a Revolution person will write a paragraph about that person. The anchors will then collaborate with the Revolutionaries to see what questions they can ask based on the written paragraphs.
The commerical/introduction participants will create and write their scripts.
Students will then work in groups to write and practice their parts for filming the newscast.
As a class we will scout and plan locations and props for the filming the newscast.
Once the locations, props and scripts are ready, we will use flip cameras to film the various segments which will be edited into one newscast.
The newscast will then be used by this class and others to review facts about the Revolutionary War.
Comments
Other items needed depend on how elaborate you want your newscast. We used items that were already available such as a homemade microphone for interviewing and a cardboard flatscreen TV.

This idea could be used to reinforce many types of lessons.
Follow-Up
Have other classes write reviews of the newscast.
