The Bourne School Council has set a goal to develop online resources to support incoming middle school children into the Bourne Middle School. The transition from elementary to the middle school is always a concern for parents and children alike.
To meet this goal, the following new project has been planned, but additional video cameras are required. Preliminary lessons will teach the ethical guidelines for videotaping, using and publishing audio and videos of individuals. The 7th grade students will work in pairs, teaming students that have Special Needs or learning difficulties with other students when necessary. They will begin by constructing storyboards to outline their proposed interview questions and sequence. The class will view the completed storyboards to critique and offer suggestions for improvement in the plans. One student from each pair will videotape as the other interviews teachers, administrators, the school nurse and guidance counselor, coaches, and current 5th grade students. The students will reverse roles and do a second interview of another individual in the same program. In computer class, each student will edit his/her videotape with movie editing software. The class will review and evaluate all of the videos, making suggestions for improvement. Students will re-edit the videos and submit the final copies to be posted on our BMS website for incoming 5th grade students and their parents as well as students transferring into the school. These videos will offer a flavor of all of the services, activities and classes offered at the Middle School. This will be a valuable resource for incoming families as well as a great opportunity for the students to work with the video cameras and movie editing software as part of a new unit in their Computer Applications class.
