Allowing our students to use a flip video camera and Tool Factory Movie Maker to record a movie about Flat Stanley's adventures would take this project to a whole new level. After a student receives his/her materials back from Flat Stanley's travels, we would document his miles travelled, places visited and research the landmarks he visited on his trip. Using our MacBooks, searching on Google and then making a Power Point presentation highlighting the most important people, places and things he visited.

Students would proofread and edit their presentation with the teacher and brainstorm a background for the green screen. Students would be given time with reading aides, the teacher and senior citizen volunteer to practice their presentations. When they are "screen ready" the students would record their presentations in front of of the green screen.

Each students "Flat Stanley Adventure Movie" would be burned to a dvd for the student to keep, streamed onto the classroom website for family and friends to view and viewed by classroom, as well. All students, including those with special needs will be able to participate in this activity at their own level of understanding.

Allowing the students this opportunity to gather data, develop it and record it for themselves and others will help build their confidence, broaden their knowledge of geography and heighten their interest and understanding of the use of technology, as well.
Comments
Our students enjoy using technology and being able to give them the ability to produce their own movies would help to build their interest in the classroom and keep them focused on the project at hand.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
We will be tying in math, using equations to calculate Flat Stanley's travels, geography, researching the places he has visited, technology, creating a a power point presentation and then recording individual movies to present. We will also include grammar/english when we are writing, editing and proofreading presentations.
Follow-Up
After the project is completed we will watch the students videos and discuss similarities and differences in the places visited, miles travelled, etc.
