School: Industrial Junior High School, Lolita, TX
Planned By: eric vonbergen
Original Author: eric vonbergen, Lolita
Students will estimate what the salary of certain professions was in the 1800's. Students will then map out the route of the Oregon Trail on a USA map. Students will write a short "What I Think I Know" summary about what they think life was like on the Oregon trail and what pioneers needed or would bring with them.

Following the 1-2 day introduction segment students will then be brought to the computer lab to use the Oregon Trail video game. Students will choose the same profession they chose in the classroom and then attempt to purchase via the video game what they believed a pioneer of that profession would have purchased.

Following their time in the lab students will write a follow up comparing and contrasting what they thought life was like on the Oregon Trail and how it really was after playing the interactive historical game Oregon Trail.
Comments
This is a strategy and concept my teachers introduced to me in middle school and it's something I never forgot. I believe it will have the same impact on my students.
