Phase I
Students will:
1. Design a Home webpage
2. Design web pages introducing theElements and Principles of Art
3. Design web pages illustrating and defining each of the Elements and
Principles of Art

Phase II
Students will:
1. Design web pages illustrating and defining connections of Art to Math,
Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts
2. Design web pages illustrating Arts Integration
3. Design activities to engage the viewers in art and/or technological
expression

Phase III
Students will:
1. Maintain and update the web pages on a regular basis
2. Research other avenues of technology for incorporation into the
webpage design
3. Research and create a Web Library with links to sites suitable for
elementary age children

Illustrations will be provided by the students using digital photography to capture real world visuals that show the required Elements and Principles of Art.

All written information will be accumulated by the students using a variety of textbooks, art references and interview techniques.

The "Digital Expression and Communication: Webpage Design through Art" project is designed not only to foster understanding of the Elements and Principles of Art but to open to the students’ new avenues of visual expression incorporating the technological tools of today and skills for tomorrow. Teacher guided activities will be designed so that the students will ask the questions, problem solve and provide the answers.

Strict guidelines will be set with respect to copyright and licensing. All pertinent bibliographies or URL will be provided.
Comments
This equipment is critical to getting the webpage project to its required level of visualness as student developed and designed . Cameras in hand and personal editing of the photographs, actual work time with the equipment, give students ownership and is important to maintaining high interest in the project. Students must create the visual portfolio depicting the Elements and Principles of Art.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Connecting the Visual Arts to the other disciplines is one of the primary goals of the "Digital Expression and Communication: Webpage Design through Art" project. In Phase II students are to design web pages that illustrate connections to math, science, social studies and language arts as well as Arts Integration.
Follow-Up
Student assessments, formative and summative, will be conducted by student, peers and teacher. On-going updates and management of the web pages will be required. Invitation to teachers to join in the webpage development will be encouraged with student directed learning.
