My classroom has some great students! We work another fifth grade classroom to create an authentic learning community. Students take on important jobs such as being podcasters, ambassadors, newsletter staff, bankers and store managers to name a few in order to gain skills and help our community run smoothly.
5th Grade Teacher
I love teaching. It is my passion. I have worked with and enjoy both students and teachers and enjoy both. I am involved in applied learning. I believe it is important for students at any age to take an active part in their learning. Students can solve real-world problems, create systems, and manage and plan events. These high interest opportunities allow students to apply skills and practice them in a safe setting.

I love to read. I also work out and every year participate in a triathalon or running event. I have two sons and they keep me busy with their sports. I am a football, basketball and lacrosse spectator.
I love picture books and enjoy sharing them with my students. Some of my favorites are Pink and Say, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Tuesday. I especially like to use books to provide adult models for student writing.
"Learning is experience. Everything else is just information."
Research on the brain and how people learn. Art and technology.
I have worked in the Everett School District for 15 years. I spent 5 years in middle school teaching 6th grade and then two years with 5th grade. I spent about 6 years working with teachers supporting elementary mathematics professional development and providing and developing online resources. I am now back in the classroom, where I love to be, at a new school teaching 5th graders.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love to work with children. I am fueled by their creativity, compassion, thinking "outside the box" and their natural inquisitiveness. All students are capable of learning and I enjoy the challenge of supporting them to meet their varied needs.
