Standard Digital Camera Lab, $2799.00, 0.00% raised
Standard Digital Camera Lab Rank:
Single Unit Why I need this:
My special education students are mainly visual learners. Being able to take pictures and then write about them is a good tool to help them learn. I would have my students write digital stories from the images that they take. Having our own cameras would eliminate copyright issues for students using pictures from the web. For math class, I could have the students take pictures of geometric shapes around campus and then create a visual presentation to share this material with their classmates. Having a digital camera lab would give my special education students on campus a technical advantage that can be transferred to real life skills. They would learn how to import photographs, manipulate them, add copy to create a story.

Class Description:
My students come from a diverse social economic background and have learning disabilities. I've had some who have been homeless to some whose parents have to work two jobs to make ends meet. Our entire school has free lunch and free breakfast. My students struggle to achieve academically and maybe even feel bad about themselves and their learning. Theywant to learn, but sometimes have trouble paying attention. Othershave autism and have trouble sitting in a seat for an hour. My students are excited to be in my class because they know how much I care about them and how much I know they can learn in my classroom. My students just need some extra help to achieve and learn how to learn. Their parents are great overall, doing their best to raise them. But it is hard to work all day at physically demanding jobs and then have the energy and patience to deal with a highly demanding child. I want to do all I can so these students can be successful in school. I want my classroom environment to be one where they can have a safe place that encourages learning.
Position:
Resource Teacher
Needs:
Currently, we need computers. My students have a computer in their general education class but there is difficulty trying to bring it for a pull out writing support class. They forget their login. We have to wait for their computers to boot up. Before I can blink, my time with them is up and we hardly got any writing done. I use google docs for writing and give them assistive technology through google read-write. Teachers in the classroom want them to use word because they are more confident with that software. Help!
My Philosophy:
All students can learn. Some just need specific help and advice on how to succeed. Every day is a gift and every student brings a bit of joy each day.
