Math sometimes seems not to connect to the real world. Your students need to plan a date night.
This is just make-believe of course.

This night must include going out to dinner and ordering four items. They must pay tax (8.25%) and tip (15%). They need to include transportation to dinner and to the date event.

They need to calculate the cost of transportation. This can include bus fees, light rail, taxis, limousines. If needed they must calculate tax and tip.

They need to plan the ‘date’. Are you going bowling, to the movies, to a show or event? What is the cost? How many games are you going to bowl? What is the price of the ticket? Are there any fees?

They need to order a new outfit for themselves on the internet. It must include new shoes, pants and shirt or dress. This should include shipping fees and tax.

The materials should them be summarized in an excel spreadsheet.
