Tyler, TX
Class Information:
Students per Class: 125
Class Description:
AVID 2, Personal Financial Literacy, Economics
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I teach in a school that has a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students. They are given a Chromebook which is used extensively in all their classes. However, many of my students cannot afford internet access at their homes, and some go to restaurants to find Wi-fi access.
My Philosophy:
I believe students must take ownership of their education. Despite trends that seek to make students "feel good", success is defined by their accomplishments. My job as a teacher is to inspire them to learn, and to provide the tools and the structure so that they can learn.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I enjoy being outdoors; fishing, hunting, camping and canoeing. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
College and Degrees:
University of Texas at Tyler - B.A. in History, with a minor in Social Studies
Favorite Books:
Lord of the Rings, anything by C.S. Lewis, and the classics like A Tale of Two Cities
Why Do I Teach?:
The young people of today are more curious, and more social than ever before. But without a solid, relevant education, they will not be equipped to function in a modern society. The future of our nation depends on our young people, and I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to influence them in a positive way.
