Spring Woods High School
Hometown:
Houston
Class Information:
Room Number: 222
Students per Class: 140
Class Description:
I teach AP and PreAP Biology so my class looks like a lab. I have students of all kinds in my room, but many of them do not have access to the internet at their home. I try to incorporate as much technology into my course as possible because I know that that is the best thing I can teach these students that will impact their future.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
We need working laptops or netbooks (the ones the science department has right now are so old that it literally takes 20 minutes for some of them to boot up - the kids hate them) as well as digital camcorders (like FLIP cameras) to record labs and presentations and such.
My Philosophy:
All kids need to be taught the proper use of technology to be successful in the world they will soon be a part of. Additionally, technology is becoming more and more a part of the field of science and students who go into science as a profession without any prior background in the basics will find a much more difficult path ahead of them.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I'm 24, married to a wonderful man and I have two cute puppies - Marty and Lando. I have been teaching for 3 years - I started out in a very privileged school but quickly realized that I was being called elsewhere and have been at my current school for one year now. I love my school and my students, and love to show them the possibilities that science can open up for them.
College and Degrees:
Texas A&M University - Bachelors of Science in Biology Texas A&M University - Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction
Favorite Quotes:
"Never Never Never give up" - Winston Churchill

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I know that passionate teachers who clearly know and love their subject make a huge difference in the way students learn and learn to learn. My students this year may tell you that my class is tough - but you will find few who wish they had done it differently because my passion for teaching and for biology makes the difference.
