I teach in a rural middle school. My students have little access to cultural activities, book stores, technology at home, or even movie theaters.
I teach four levels of classes. The lowest are level 1's and include primarily resourse students. The level 2's are struggling readers and writers. This class also contains several resource students. The level 3 students are bright and extremely energetic. These students are highly inquisitive and have thousands of questions. The level 4 students are the higher achieving students but are not in the gifted prpgram. These students are like sponges--absorbingevery bit of instruction I can give to them. For the most part, these are avid readers and creative thinkers.
Position:
Teacher/8th gr lead teacher/ELA dept chair
Needs:
Anything and everything available to keep all of the different levels engaged in learning and on task.
My Philosophy:
The more exposure my rural students get to real-world technology at the middle school level, the better prepared for their own futures they will be.
The more engaged in the learning process my students become, the greater responsibility they will take for their own learning and achievement.
