Our school district underwent a major reconfiguration this past summer in which 60% of teachers were moved, relocated, and/or switched grade levels and content. With the closure of two buildings in our district, many teachers are now sharing classroom spaces as a result of fewer available learning environments to work from. I myself am teaching in a new classroom space this year that although has some dynamic elements for innovative teaching, it is lacking in a few technology components that could greatly enhance the overall learning taking place each day. Our one-to-one Chromebook initiative allows students instant access to technology and as their teacher I want to be able to model for them inspiring and motivating engagement techniques. Having a touch screen Chromebook and a Chromecast will allow me to explicitly and visually demonstrate for students on our large projector screen tech tools and capabilities fostering more real time opportunities for critical thinking, collaboration, digital creativity, and communication. These two technology devices (touch screen Chromebook and Chromecast) would undoubtedly unlock new pathways for more effective pedagogy and increased student achievement.
