Planned By: Linda Griner
Original Author: Linda Griner, Hampshire
Students in grades K-8 will choose a place they might only dream of visiting and, through a study of that place, create a brochure of their destination. The brochure would include maps, descriptions of the land, climate, plant life, information about key facts, and photos of places of interest, the people, the settings, and the plant and animal life of that area.

This project could include every subject area. What a fun way to study science, math, language arts, music, and art, all at one time. The objectives would include students determining a location, writing about the place they chose, drawing maps, studying climates of the area, determining plant and animal life in that zone, and creating a brochure that would entice other visitors. At the completion of the project, each student would receive a copy of their class brochure. Copies would also be sent to the local museum, the director of schools, the county libraries and each classroom in the school. By using the objectives listed, all areas of learning could be addressed by 100% of the school population.

The published brochure would be the assessment of student work. The work is bound to be enjoyed by all grade levels. The imagination of lower grades, the ability of students to work in various areas would come with middle school, and the love of technology that is evident in high school students would make this project a success.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The project is cross curricular by nature. It incorporates most or all of the academic and specialist areas of learning.
Follow-Up
Each year as students move into another grade they would be able to use that grade's location. This would allow the project to continue from year to year.
