This project is coordinated through the health and langauge arts teachers. Students explore the topic of HIV-AIDS through a cross curriucular method- students learn about HIV-AIDS in social studies, science, foreign language, math, health and language arts.

Students:
1. Learn basic information
2. Research an assigned topic- cultural, economic, medical, famous people- Magic Johnson, history, discrimination, drug use, etc. (Approx 35 different topics)
3. Create a narrated media project
4. Present their products to classmates, parents, community members.
5. Participate (approx 100 students) in service project at Camp Heartland- a camp that provides a retreat for children and teens afflicted with HIV-AIDS. This camp operates in the summer- however, our students provide their service in the winter- cleaning trails, cleaning cabins, painting, creating cards, etc.
Comments
I have taught for 15 years- this is the most valuable learning experience I engage my students in. The opportunity to help others in a worldwide problem is a very empowering experience for teenagers.
