Students begin by designing a building by using basic legos. Students are then introduced to Sketch-up (free download through Google for Educators). Students watch introductory videos and explore tools. They design a simple building based on their lego creation. Digital photos of their models can also be used on the program as a guide if resources are available. Finally they create a 3-D model of their lego building.

Students complete their project by using tools to add texture and color.

Cross-Curriculum Ideas
To connect into social studies students could use photos of buildings in their community or state. They can also utilize online pictures of famous and historical buildings. There is also a process by which the buildings they create in their community can be added onto Google Earth.
