J. B. Wilmeth Elementary School
Hometown:
McKinney, Texas
Class Information:
Room Number: C107
Students per Class: 50
Class Description:
Fifth grade math and science class
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
My class could benefit from a few laptops. We have 20 in our school that are shared by about 700 students. My students do lots of research and produce products using Web 2.0 tools whenever possible.
My Philosophy:
The jobs that my students will have probably will originate from the math and science fields, more so than other school subjects. To compete, they will need to be comfortable in working with others, solving problems, and utilizing current technologies.
Personal Information:
Why Do I Teach?:
I got into teaching because I loved school as a child. School was a safe haven, a predictable place where I excelled. I have remained in teaching now 34 years because I love to see children's faces when they are happy, learning, and feeling success. This is truly my calling, as corny as that sounds. I can't imagine doing anything else. Being a teacher allows me to continue my learning about people, content, technology---all that is the latest and greatest. If I wasn't teaching, I would be at a school somewhere volunteering because there is always a teacher who can use an extra hand or a child that needs some help or a friend.
