School: North Harnett Primary School, Angier, NC
Planned By: Debra Bagby
Original Author: Debra Bagby, Angier
Common Core Standards:
*Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story by different authors or from different cultures.
*With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
*Create audio recordings of stories or poems: add drawings or other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts and feelings.

We will begin our unit by exploring traditional fairy tales and comparing and contrasting these tales across different cultures. Students will identify common features of the fairy tale genre (for example, the number 7 or villains). Students will use Flip cameras to film peers reading these fairy tales. These videos will be shared with kindergarten classes. After exploration of the fairy tale genre, students will begin to write their own fractured fairy tales. Using their newly created fractured fairy tales, students will perform their fairy tales using puppets, props, art work, and music. After using the Flip cameras to video the performances, students will use Animoto, Prezi, and other multimedia software to create presentations. Our culminating activity will be presenting "Fantastically Flipping Fairy Tales" to parents during an evening event.

An assessment rubric has been developed to evaluate creativity, use of technology, understanding of different cultures through global awareness, and the fairy tale genre.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
We will integrate global awareness with literature.
Follow-Up
We will post these presentations on our Wikispaces site as well as on the school website for other students, parents, and teachers to view.
